African Impact
Forum
About the forum
Modelled after the Resnick Aspen Action Forum but designed specifically for the African context, the ALI Africa Impact Forum (AIF) was initiated by the leadership of the Africa Leadership Initiative. This event brings together Fellows from ALI South Africa, ALI West Africa, ALI East Africa, ALI Mozambique, ALI Media, and the Young Africa Leadership Initiative (YALI). The ALI Africa Impact Forum aims to provide these Fellows with a platform to deeply connect and engage on matters of significance to the whole continent. Over three days, it provides an opportunity for connection, reflection and a deepening of the pool of influential, effective and ethical leaders across Africa who assume personal and collective accountability for the “Good Society”. The AIF serves to strengthen the African Fellows network and seek spaces where Fellows can act together in an inclusive and supportive environment. Hosting of the event is rotated amongst the various ALI regional Fellowships every two years.

Achieving Gender Equality In Governance And Leadership In Africa - The Role Of Legislation
According to gsdrc.org, globally fewer than 19% of national parliamentarians are women (WDR). Even where women have been able to secure office, they continue to face additional challenges compared to their male counterparts. In order to reverse this negative cycle, there must be a significant number of women in positions of power.
A number of strategies have been adopted in the past but the question remains as to what is working and what further actions can be taken to achieve the desired goals particularly in the West Africa sub-region. Sheila Minkah-Premo discussed the role of legislation in recording better outcomes in gender equality in governance and leadership.

ALIWA Conversations - Building To Last - Leading Change In 2021
“The simplest definition of leadership is the ability to produce change” – Peter Senge.
About a year ago, ALI Fellows gathered in Accra to explore the theme “Building To Last: Leadership vs. Systems”. Quickly following the impactful experience, was the pandemic. How do we rise from one of the most difficult years in modern history, to not only make progress, but to thrive? How can leaders make 2021 count to ensure a better organisation, a better nation or even a thriving continent? How do we build for the future starting from now? If truly “amidst disruption comes opportunity” perhaps there is no better time for new opportunities than now. Africa Leadership Initiative West Africa (ALIWA) invites you to a Leadership session with Professor P.L.O. Lumumba on at 1pm GMT/2pm WAT, as he shares useful insights to successfully navigate 2021 for results.

Unjust Societies - The Urgent Need For Collective Action
Governance and leadership in the 21st century should assure every citizen of equal access to meaningful opportunities and a decent life. As the world grapples with the challenges of democracy – socio economic inequalities, the rise in protests, “movement societies” and a fight for transparency and good governance, there’s a resounding call from young people for authentic role models and exemplary leadership. The Fierce Urgency of Now calls for moral leadership that is both effective and responsive.
We are living in an age of unparalleled economic inequality, growing authoritarianism and social Darwinism, exacerbated by widespread political, economic and social leadership failure.
This ALIWA/AGLN conversation featured 3 leaders from the ALIWA Fellowship to tackle these problems in their own different ways within public, private and social sectors.
Aliwa Conversations - Interventions to Address Inequities
We continue to witness inequities in Education that affect students in majority of communities in Africa, including Nigeria and Ghana.
Where lies the opportunity for interventions to address these gaps?
Fellows Naomi Adjepong, Olanike Akerele De Souza, Sally Udoma and Yaw Perbi deliberated shared their experiences in combating these inequities in an an inspiring conversation moderated by Fellow Bernard Avle.
